Cavallo di Lavoro Chianti Classico

~ 2010 Cecchi Chianti Classico ~

Hailing from their family estate vineyards in Castellina in Chianti, the traditional Cecchi Chianti Classico is a solid value and a cavallo di lavoro or  "Workhorse" rosso.

Comprised of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo/Colorino,  the 2010 Cecchi Chianti Classico is true to it's origins.  A dark violet in the glass, the aroma of the wine is so pretty.  Flowers, new leather, and ripe berries are easily identifiable.  On the palate, the wine displays a more simple profile.  There's a solid, medium bodied core of crushed red berry fruit and just a hint of earthiness. The moderate barrique aging adds a bit of spice to the profile.  Straightforward enough and tasty, this will be best with roasted poultry, pasta and even pizza.

An affordable wine and a great testament to the excellence of the 2010 vintage.   87 points, about $10-12.   Disclosure:  This bottle was an importer provided sample.

Salute!
