Classico Consistency

~ Cantina at Felsina ~

Consistency is something that every winemaker and farmer would love.  Consistent weather.  Even, temperate sunny days and cool slumbering nights.  The right amount of rainfall.  The right amount of heat.

I've been around Chianti Classico many times and I know with certainty that pattern is anything but typical.  Yet somehow,  it doesn't seem to affect Felsina.  They are somehow immune.  Actually,  that isn't correct. It's not that they're immune;  it's that they've got a great team led by winemaker Franco Bernabei,  they've got great vineyards and long experience in dealing with them.

So if you're looking for a typical, delicious Chianti Classico, either to drink tonight or to cellar for 3-5 years and you've got no idea what to buy (though if you're reading TuscanVines, that shouldn't be the case!)  remember the name:  Felsina!

So here we are again.   The 2011 Felsina Chianti Classico is a vibrant shimmering ruby colored Sangiovese with violet reflections throughout.  The aroma is classic through and through.  Bright cherry fruit is accented by notes of tobacco, fresh herbs, and anise.

On the palate,  the flavors echo the nose with purity and intensity.  There's a lovely note of fennel that penetrates the juicy crushed wild berry core and a trailing note of sweet tobacco appears on the finish.  Just a lovely wine and an excellent value around $18.   Stock up.  90 points.
