Viva Parusso!

Parusso is located on the border of Castiglione Falleto and Monforte d'Alba.  For over 20 years, the brother and sister team of Marco and Tiziana Parusso have been crafting elegant, rich Barolo.  In 1986, the siblings took control of the winery from their father Armando and in 2000, realized their dream of completing a new barrel aging cellar.

The current team is dedicated to quality and employs rigorous green harvesting techniques and strict selection in the cellar to ensure that only optimal grapes are used for their wines which are crafted using 100% estate grown fruit.

I first tasted the 2008 Parusso Barolo Mariondino as part of my report on 2008 Barolo last year.  It's amazing to me how consistent this showing was compared to the first.

Sourced from Castiglione Falleto, this is a stunning Barolo.  However, I have to couch those remarks for readers who desire a more traditional version of Nebbiolo.  This isn't Mascarello, but if you appreciate all styles as I do, you will find this irresistible.

Deep violet to purple in the glass, the aromas are intense with wild cherry fruit, perfumed flowers, spices and fresh herbs. On the palate, this rich wine is full bodied, luscious and finely textured with cherry, earth, leather and herbs. The judicious barrique aging compliments without overwhelming.  The tannins and acids are balanced so well against the massive core of fruit that this is approachable right now.  Clearly this has the stuffing to last in your cellar, but try and keep your hands off.  I can't.  94 points.  About $45.
