Throughout my numerous tastings of 2009 and 2010 Chianti Classico, I've noticed somewhat of a trend in the wines I tend to appreciate more than others. While many delicious Chianti Classico are made throughout the entire zone, I find I'm repeatedly enchanted by the wines from Berardenga, and in the case of today's article, Radda.
The 2009 Castello d'Albola Chianti Classico is a medium to dark ruby in the glass - authentic and traditional in color. The aromatics are what draw me in and seem so typical of the Radda area. The wine is high toned, with fragrant aromas of cut flowers, crushed berries and spices. It's perfumed. On the palate, the wine displays that wonderfully crisp, mouth watering acidity that screams Radda and Tuscany. Soul. There's ample berry fruit, slight spice, and sweet pipe tobacco flavors that are accented with a simple hint of red licorice. Juicy and balanced, but I see no reason to cellar this. It's delicious right now. 91 points. A very affordable $13.

John, I just purchased my 24 bottles of Italian wines at a remarkable 25% off and some more than that. I did not see this one, but I'm looking forward to a Castello Di Meleto 2009 Chianti Classico, $10.70 from $16.99. I haven't tasted a new CC in some time and it's going to be soon.
