It's been just over a year since I tasted this wine for the first time.
I'm very happy to say that while the aromatics were a bit closed down this time, the palate of this wine is still utterly amazing. The wine was decanted for about an hour before heading to dinner.
In the glass, the aromas are there, but not quite as intense. There's a wonderful floral component to the rich, crushed cherry fruit and a hint of exotic, asian condiments, like soy and hoison.
In the mouth, the wine is full bodied and elegant with a rich, deeply framed core of ripe berry fruit supported by dusty, powdery tannins, espresso, leather and flowers. It's rich, complex and seamless from start to finish. Perfectly balanced.
I have a feeling that when this wine "wakes up" from this slumber it's in, the aromatics will return and this will be a historic Brunello. 95 points, about $75 upon release.
Allora....
